 The Icky news (ME)
I stayed at home this morning because I'm sick.  Fever, sore throat, soreness and heaviness in my chest, cold sores on my mouth, general aching all over.  I went to bed last night at 10, and absolutely couldn't drag myself out of bed until 9am. I meant to stay home all day, but at noon Thomas told me that Mother wanted me to come in because "Little Girl" wasn't there.  And I know I'll have to go in tomorrow because I'm pretty sure Terry (aka Little Girl) won't come in tomorrow.  And I'm sure I'll feel much better tomorrow, it's just one of those summer colds I was going to use for an excuse not to work.

The proud news (Thomas)
Thomas is really making strides today.  Tommy didn't have a new survey for him, so after he did some corrections, and came home for lunch and to pick me up, I had him helping in the office and running errands.  He had to do three things he's never done before, and a couple he had (like make bank deposits).  The first one was take clothes to the Laundry, and tell them to put extra starch in the shirts.  I told him to just put it under Thomas, so they didn't butcher our name.  But him came back and told me they'd "weaseled my last name out of me."  But he thought it was funny.  Not the least bit thrown.

Then I sent him out with the deed to that new land
my mother bought out back of Betty's old house. I gave him a signed blank check for registration fees, and directions to the Registrar of Deeds.  He came back and said he found it okay, but the deed didn't have everything it needed.  So I supplied the missing address and signatures and sent him back.  Right after he left, Janice, from Security Bank called to tell me that someone had picked up a signed, blank check from the sidewalk (SB is right across the street from the courthouse annex) and brought it into the bank.  I tell her the grandson has dropped it on his way to the Deeds office, and she'll hold it there for Thomas to come get.  I call him on the cell phone to tell him all of the above.  When he got to the bank (which he'd been in earlier making deposits) he had to talk to two tellers to find Janice, and then Janice, and then to the nice little old lady that found the check and brought it in and was still there doing her banking.  Then back across the street to the registrar 's office.  And she talks to him, quizzing him about which grandchild he was,  and telling him she knew his grandparents. And he comes back from all this in high old spirits!  Handled everything and didn't stress out.  I was thrilled.

Still no highway work, maybe next week, but he's putting out surveys worth $600 - $750.  We're hoping that this will help Tommy get rid of some backlog, because the office is woefully behind the field crews. At least 3 weeks, because I had a client call and talk to me about the crew had been out on such and such a day, and he was worried that the survey was lost in the mail, or we'd called and he hadn't gotten the message, etc.  But it was just in Tommy's office, on the floor, under some other survey.  I pulled it out and had Thomas finish the drawing, but for some reason it still hasn't gone out.  It's a real power struggle between Tommy and Mother about getting the surveys out.  He wants to do everything.  Which would be fine if he was organized and got things out before the clients get mad, but he's not.

So anyway, there are office politics every where you go.
But I'm still mostly loving being up here, and at the office
